A chain that is not broken

The Silsila Qadria

A silsila is a chain of transmission — each shaykh receiving from the one before him, and passing onward what he received.

This archive reproduces the Shijra Qadriya Aaliya as the printed Sijra sets it down. Every entry carries its complete line: the opening supplication, the honorific titles, the name, and the closing formula.

Select any name to open it — period, dates, where he lived, where he rests, and an account of him, alongside the full original line.

Durood-e-Taj

Composed by Shaykh Abu Bakr bin Salim of Tarim, and recited across the Qadri order and its allied silsilas, Durood-e-Taj is reproduced here in full — the Arabic exactly as transmitted, with a transliteration and its meaning — before the Shijra opens below.

Meaning

O Allah, send blessings upon our master and guide, Muhammad — possessor of the crown, the night ascension, the Buraq and the banner; who wards off calamity, plague, famine, sickness and pain; whose name is written, raised high, granted intercession, inscribed upon the Tablet and the Pen; master of Arab and non-Arab alike; whose body is sanctified, fragrant, pure and radiant, in the House and the Sanctuary — the sun of forenoon, the full moon of the darkest night, foremost among the exalted, the light of guidance, the refuge of all creation, the lamp within the darkness, beautiful of character, the intercessor of nations, possessor of generosity and nobility. Allah is his protector, Jibril his attendant, the Buraq his mount, the ascension his journey, the Lote Tree of the Furthest Boundary his station, and the nearness of "two bow-lengths" his sought end — what was sought became his purpose, and what was purposed, he attained. Master of the messengers, seal of the prophets, intercessor for sinners, companion of the estranged, a mercy to all the worlds, the comfort of the devoted, the longing of the yearning, the sun of those who know, the torch of those upon the path, the lamp of those drawn near, lover of the poor, the strangers and the destitute. Master of the two weighty creations, prophet of the two Sanctuaries, leader of the two directions of prayer, our means in both abodes, possessor of "two bow-lengths," beloved of the Lord of the two Easts and the two Wests, grandfather of Hasan and Hussain, our master and master of mankind and jinn, Abul Qasim, Muhammad son of Abdullah, a light from the Light of Allah. O you who yearn for the light of his beauty — send blessings upon him, upon his family and his companions, and grant him abundant peace.

About this archive

Why it was made

Printed Sijra sheets are folded, carried, and read until they wear through. This site exists so that one such sheet — the Sijra Qadriya Jalanavi — can be read on any screen without losing a single word of what it says.

The names, their order, the honorifics and the closing formulae all come from the document itself. Dates, places and written accounts come from research, and are marked as such on screen.

Where no reliable published record of a figure could be found, the fields are left deliberately empty rather than filled with guesswork. They can be completed once the family verifies them.
